Task management/accountability/action is one of the weakest areas for most businesses. As such, all my clients are loving the Action Items functionality in BoardPro. The WHAT, WHO and, most importantly, the WHEN and automatic email followups!
However, this good thing is creating problems:
- They want to load new action items created between board meetings - this is very hard to do as Action Items can currently only exist within minutes.
- They want this kind of task management system for their whole team - as soon as they move to a Trello, Basecamp, Smartsheet, or other task management tool, it then creates competition and duplication with BoardPro. Clients never want to manage dual task management systems as that's very messy and inefficient (and increases costs).
The only solution I can see for this is that BoardPro evolves into "TeamPro" - applying the same great board meeting tools and discipline to team meetings. You've already built most of this, so it may be just as simple as setting up more committees for clients so that the sales team, marketing team, production team etc can all run their meetings within it too.
The other changes in functionality needed would be:
- The ability to see Action Items by an individual in a summary view. In other words, it includes all actions across all meetings.
- The ability to add Action Items outside of meetings.
- Adding a priority against Actions so that if there are, say, 20 in a list, you can sort by overdue/due date, priority, meeting etc.
Thanks, Kim.
The threat for BoardPro is, if you don't offer it, clients need to start using competing software, which increases the likelihood of dropping BoardPro one day. Or, the threat if Diligent offers this functionality (perhaps it already does?).
With regards to your final point, you can't view all actions for all meetings in one view, e.g. Board, H&S committee, Risk committee. Only the one you're currently in.
Hi Geoff,
These are great ideas and we love how much you love BoardPro! The management tool space is a crowded market, with a lot of competition from freemium to premium prices. We are focused on developing BoardPro into the best governance tool on the planet for SME's and NFP's.
One of the requests you have made does exist in BoardPro:
Hi BoardPro - what's the latest on this request? It's my biggest frustration. Clients are creating plenty of actions between meetings and want them all loaded into BoardPro.
